Happy Birthday

Thanks to Russin and Dave for this picture!

One year old!

Fitting that I am posting this on the day we came home from the hospital-one year ago, with a brand new baby! It never ceases to amaze me the changes that occur in one year. I mean, this is from Halloween 2009:

(I know, I know-I'll never forgive myself for putting such a ridiculous hat on him. I blame hormones and serious sleep deprivation! )

Fresh from our first traumatic car ride home from the hospital.

It has been a most adventurous first year-I can't wait for all the milestones yet to come!

Favorite things

Currently two of his favorite toys-a small wooden bowl and a ball! He throws them and then chases them all over the house.

Vroom vroom

You can hear Miles making the brrrrrmmm, brrrrrmmmm sound while playing with his truck. I am loving all these little changes in the way he plays. It's getting much more organized and deliberate.

Fire truck

This is a new sound for Miles-fire truck!

Slippery shmipery

Miles has improvised a new way of crawling. The hardwood floors are just too slippery for any real traction/speed. So, he figured out an easier way to get around. This was in the early stages. It's perfected now and he can really make time across the room. He often crawls traditional style on carpet, but on smooth surfaces, this is the way ahead!

Game face

Will someone please open this kennel?

During a recent play date, Leah discovered the joys of sticking her fingers into Butters' crate. She thought it was quite silly and I thought it was adorable! Butters was just wishing she knew how to open the door. I'm guessing Leah will have that figured out before long!

High chair shenanigans

The big 4-0!

Yes, it finally happened. I turned 40. Hard to believe on many levels. Feeling a bit overwhelmed this year with Miles' upcoming birthday and all the crazy adjustments to parenthood, I decided to forgo a celebration. However, my friends and family had other plans. I was completely surprised with a party in my honor. I had no idea!!! And the icing on the cake...my mom and sister both flew in to town to join the festivities. What a treat-I couldn't believe it! In the end, I'm so glad this birthday didn't pass by without a party. I felt so special, treasured and honored. Thank you so much to all who made that possible-I love you!

Did you miss us?

We haven't posted for awhile and now, I'll make up for lost time. A little celebratory concert to welcome us back!

Where's Mama?

So, Craig made this discovery. He noticed that while reading this book, if I was in the same room, every time they got to the part where the baby wants her mommy, Miles would look over at me. Naturally, I had to video it!

Winter hat debut

This was the project that kept me busy and out of Miles' way while he worked on the crawling thing. It's my third attempt (at the same hat with the same yarn-I had to rip it out twice!) and I'm pretty happy with the way it finally turned out. I think I may have come up a little short on the size though, so I'm going to add ear flaps and hopefully that way it will last the whole winter. I am in no mood to do any more ripping.

Exactly one second after I put it on.

Hopefully, he's just not into wearing winter hats indoors. Seriously, the child still has NO hair. Well, not enough to give him any warmth at any rate. He will need to wear hats all the time!

Determined to ditch it.

Very determined.
